Make Everyday

14 days, 14 “artifacts,”: this is what I found in everyday life that stood out and became worth documenting to me. Although these are not objects that I have made for work or learned about in class, these are the objects that I draw inspiration from and that keep me creating each day. These inspirations center around relationships, nature, food, and making a beautiful and comfortable living space. These are the ways in which I create on a daily basis. I want to expand upon these creations and shift into creating on digital platforms daily, drawing from these inspirations to continually share them with others, so here is a good start!

August 31

Fun fact about me: I love to eat, which has resulted in a talent for cooking. Pictured above is Balsamic roasted chicken, garlic parmesan potatoes, and a peach and prosciutto salad.

+Bonus August 31:

My husband Jake begged me to watch Avatar with him for the past few weeks (I am not a huge cartoon fan overall) and since I now do my school work at home, he puts this tv show on while I work on school projects. With Halloween also approaching, I remembered this image that I created for my friend a few years ago. She goes all out every Halloween and Ang was her inspiration at this point in time. We went out to our garage before class, snapped a few pics, and a background swap in photoshop brought about this glorious recreation. Enjoy!

September 1

Like most people (I’d assume), I do not like all the smoke from the wildfires blazing across the West. The only upside, are the sunrises and sunsets, as pictured above.

September 2

Like I shared earlier, I love to eat, but food gets an added bonus for me when it also a feast for the eyes. The contrast of watermelon radish adds both a peppery taste and a memorable visual.

September 3

A frequent past time Jake and I like to do is go fishing. He’s the one who actually fishes, I sit by the bank and typically read a book. We saw this cloud of smoke coming off the Cameron Peak wildfire in Northern Colorado. As always, the iPhone photo did not do this sunset justice.

September 4

Each morning when I walk to my car this is the view out of our apartment complex. The haze is the result of the smoke cloud from the previous evening, causing the tinge of reddish orange in the sky. The color variation that comes from smoke and how it drastically affects what we see everyday in a new way captures my attention whenever I notice it.

September 5

Again, the smoke’s affect on our surroundings as it turns the sky a hazy grey instead of vibrant blue makes me appreciate the clear skies even more.

September 6

Another day and another meal. Here I made a flank steak salad with peaches, avocado and goat cheese. I’ll just share that this salad somehow tasted even better than it looks.

September 7

We moved to this new apartment about a month ago and my mind has constantly been figuring out various stylings, artwork, furniture etc to make this space warm, inviting, and comfortable. My favorite piece so far is this large canvas print of a mountain painting I found from a print shop I follow on Instagram. I love how the image captures the viewer’s attention, and brings a sense of solidity and peace to this space.

September 8

I said to Jake a few days ago how we are about a month away from the first snow. Little did I know that it would actually occur this early in September! I was enthralled by the drastic weather change and seeing the mist and snow over this pasture brought me feelings of renewal. After living in CA for four years, I am constantly in awe when the seasons begin to change and this first snow invited those feelings again.

September 9

Jake and I have similar taste in art, having taken many similar art classes throughout our undergrad experience. Just like our own photographs, these pieces remind us of memories and people we care about, making it special to be able to hang their work in our living space. The middle photo was taken by one of our friends who is a lifestyle photographer, Sean Collier. I bought this print from him for only $12, but I have a feeling with the trajectory of his career that it may be worth more here in a few years.

September 10

Taking long walks helps me to center, re-focus, and at times get my mind off of what I need to do. With the drastic season change last week, the grasses in the fields behind our apartment began to change into vibrant color variations. With the diffused light, the green remnants became illuminated, the golden yellow grass seemed to be its own light source, and the dark red stalks brought a striking contrast to this landscape.

September 11

Nearly everyday since COVID began, Jake and I will sit down for breakfast together. One of my quarantine projects was to try making sourdough, including making my own sourdough starter. The bread turned out sub-par, but these sourdough pancakes were a game changer. If you find yourself interested in making these pancakes, here is the recipe.

September 12

After moving recently, I am constantly noticing the different landscapes around the Boulder area that are different from where I grew up south of Denver. The tall rolling hills, dotted with trees and the occasional cows, followed by a backdrop of the flatirons do not disappoint. I love to pause whatever I’m doing and take in these scenes that last for a few short moments, before they alter and go about life again.

September 13

Two words: Palisade Peaches. One more word: pie. With the end of summer and the summer produce dwindling, one last hoorah came in the form of homemade mini peach pies.

September 14

No other flower reminds me of Fall quite like Mums. My mom has the green thumb and a beautiful garden to show for it. Unfortunately, I did not pick up that gene, but after seeing these at the grocery store, I had to get some and I am determined to keep them alive!

Hope you enjoyed seeing a glimpse of my everyday life and what inspires me on a regular basis!
